He Came Like A Winter Snow

It's Christmas Eve morning.  Daddy and the kids are playing gleefully in Matthew's room, I am thinking about more presents that need to be wrapped.  We are looking forward to dinner out with family followed by the Christmas Eve service at church.  And then...tomorrow morning...before the sun is up...Matthew will be in our room reminding us that...IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!!  We are excited to celebrate this Christmas with a bouncing four-year-old and a sweet little one-year-old.

This Christmas season, we have enjoyed listening to beautiful music, mainly on our Pandora Christmas stations.  One of the songs that especially has stood out to Dan and me this season is "In the Bleak Midwinter" as performed by Corrinne May.
If you have a few moments, take a listen.  It is so beautiful...you won't regret it! =)

The lyrics in the second verse are especially beautiful:
Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain;
heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.

We are amazed at the humility of Christ, in leaving the splendors and glories of heaven, to live among us, and then to die...in order that we might be freed from our sins.
We can't resist sharing the lyrics from another one of our favorite new Christmas songs.  This one also speaks of snow in describing the way Christ came.  We have no snow on the ground in Oregon this Christmas, but we can still think of the One who came quietly from heaven like a soft snow over 2000 years ago...for you and for me.
Could have come like a mighty storm
With all the strength of a hurricane
You could have come like a forest fire
With the power of heaven in Your flame

But You came like a winter snow
Quiet and soft and slow
Falling from the sky in the night
To the earth below

You could have swept in like a tidal wave
Or an ocean to ravish our hearts
You could have come through like a roaring flood
To wipe away the things we've scarred

But You came like a winter snow
You were quiet, You were soft and slow
Falling from the sky in the night
To the earth below

Oh, no, Your voice wasn't in a bush burning
No, Your voice wasn't in a rushing wind
It was still, It was small, It was hidden
You came like a winter snow
Quiet and soft and slow
Falling from the sky in the night
To the earth below
