The "best weekend ever"!

If you are familiar with Richard Scarry books (we read them daily here in our house), you will know that Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm regularly have 'the best day EVER' or 'the best ______ ever.'
Well, Dan and Matthew and I had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend and it just might have been 'the best weekend ever!'
Friday evening we had Dans parents and grandparents over for dinner. We had a great time visiting with them. Dans grandparents have been married for over 65 years and live in Houston, Texas.

On Saturday afternoon, the three of us hopped on the Max Train (Matthew's first time!) and rode up to the zoo. Every time the train stopped at a new stop (like every 2 minutes), Matthew would push his fists together, which is sign language for 'more.' We had to reassure him every time the train stopped that it would start yet again for him. Trains are a big part of Matthew's life, but amazingly he has never ridden our local Max before. We had a wonderful afternoon at the zoo with a young couple from our college group (Kylie and Jeremy). We brought the umbrella stroller for Matty, but he just wanted to trot along next to us the whole time. We got elephant ears in honor of the new baby elephant who was born at our zoo last week. We didn't get to see him, because the line was about an hour long and closed anyway by the time we got to the zoo, but there were plenty of other things to see!

On Sunday...hmmm...I can't remember doing anything especially out of the ordinary on Sunday. Oh yeah! We picked up a sandbox in the shape of a dump truck from some friends of ours at church. Matthew is going to have lots of fun in there!

On Monday, Dan got to take the day off. It was an absolutely beautiful and perfect day, weather wise. We played out in the backyard together for a bit, and after nap time, we took a bike ride in a pretty neighborhood that we like across town and played at the school playground close by. We all had a blast together! It was just perfect weather for an end-of-the-summer bike ride. Finally, we went out to pizza for dinner with a free coupon that Matthew got for completing our local library's Summer Reading Program. You have to make a list of all the books your child reads over the summer. Well, they only had room for 30 books on the paper, so I pretty much had it completed on the third day of summer, but we got a free book after turning it in ("Corduroy Lost and Found"), a free Blazer ticket and a free pizza!
All in all, it was a wonderful weekend. I am blessed by the Lord to have such a wonderful husband and son to spend time with!
